Aon Uair - Solo for Euphonium and Piano
Playing level : Grade 5
Commissioned by his two brothers, Aon Uair was composed as a gift for Ethan Mancer on his 18th birthday. The title is Scottish Gaelic (a reflection on his Scottish heritage), meaning “Once upon a time”, referring to the beginning of his story as an adult.
The work portrays a certain yearning to find a place harmonically, exploring a broad range of keys and harmonic functions to create expression. Operatic in nature, the solo euphonium explores the entire range of the instrument, creating darkness, tension filled higher passages, and flourishes through the beautiful middle register.
